Hatboro K9 handler and dad of two Ryan Allen went into cardiac arrest on Oct. 14, 2021, after suffering anaphylactic shock from a bee sting, "with no prior history of a bee allergy," his wife, Whitney Allen, wrote on a GoFundMe page.
He went into cardiac arrest and was clinically dead for 20 minutes, and as a result, suffered a lack of oxygen to his brain — resulting in an anoxic brain injury, she explained. Since then, the officer has been in and out of ICUs and hospitals
He died on Thursday, April 7, about a month after being placed in hospice care.
Hatboro Police Chief James Gardner made the announcement of his death on Facebook.
"Although he fought long and hard, he ultimately could not overcome the damage done to his body as a result of the reaction. The support for Officer Allen, his family and our police department in the months since that October day has been overwhelming," the chief said.
"We are forever grateful for the love and support shown during this difficult time. Service arrangements will be announced by Officer Allen’s family once finalized.
Allen also remembered her husband in an emotional Facebook post.
"I will miss you until the end of my days, my sweet boy. Thank you for the most magical and happiest 10 years of my life. Thank you for our two beautiful boys," she wrote.
"I will raise them to be men that you would be proud of. Please watch over us and send us signs that you’re here with us. Until we meet again boo. I love you."
